January 29, 2009 – Kathleen Hogan was diagnosed with Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia. She knew right away (okay, maybe not right away- after the shock of the cancer diagnosis wore off a little) to make the best of this and started brainstorming ideas for an organization that was going to help and give back to the cancer community. After being told her white blood cell count (infection fighting cells) would drop to dangerously low levels she was told to keep her distance from anyone who might be sick or coming down with something. Not being able to hug and kiss her family each night when they left the hospital was extremely hard for her, as she comes from a family of "Huggers & Kissers!" So, now, she thanks the Good Lord above that she has been going through treatment since 1/29/09, doing well, with her immune system riding a bit of a rollercoaster, but is very careful and has been so blessed to be able to hug and kiss her family and loved ones again! (Did she take this for granted before chemotherapy? Maybe, but she certainly doesn’t now!) Cancer is absolutely awful and it takes peoples lives. But, it can't take passion, will to live and now, ambition and drive to help other people suffering from this disease.
